Crushing strength and impact resistance of urea are improved by admixing urea melt with an aqueous solution of a urea additive comprising a polyvinyl compound. Improvement of crushing strength and impact resistance of urea involves admixing urea melt with an aqueous solution of a urea additive comprising a polyvinyl compound of formula (CHX-CHY)n. The polyvinyl compound is added in such a way that the added amount of water (H2O) is at most 5 wt.%. The obtained mixture is concentrated to dryness. n = 4-10000; X, Y = H or polar organic group. An Independent claim is also included for a composition comprising a mixture of urea and poly(vinyl alcohol) whose solidification point is 5-15 degrees C, particularly 10-15 degrees C, below the solidification point of the urea.
