PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a three-dimensional shape measuring method and apparatus which enable non-contact measurement of the three dimensional shape of an object at higher accuracy with higher spatial resolving power.;SOLUTION: The apparatus herein used is constituted of a color pattern projector 1 for projecting pattern light as designed to increase or decrease hue linearly and monotonously, a color image pickup device 2 for photographing an object under the projected color pattern and an arithmetic unit 3 for calculating three-dimensional coordinates from information, an color image taken and a projection pattern. N sequences of pattern light produced by shifting the original phase in circulation at an N-equally divided intervals are projected sequentially to obtain the number N of color images and the images obtained are added to be synthesized once returned in phase originally back again. Three- dimensional coordinates in an object coordinate system are determined for all of pixels of the synthetic image obtained based on an active stereo method to generate the three-dimensional shape of the object.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
