Total reflection measuring cell for studying interactions of biomolecules in IR spectrometer has post-tensioning device to ensure that gap between membrane and flat surface of attenuated total reflectance crystal remains uniform
Total reflection measuring cell is used for spectroscopic analysis of a liquid sample in an IR spectrometer with an attenuated total reflectance (ATR) crystal (1) which has a flat surface (2) and a membrane held in a mounting (13) so that it extends along the surface with a small gap between them. A section of the membrane which is held in the mounting can be post-tensioned by pulling it in a direction parallel to the flat surface of the crystal. A wedge (14) pushes against the post-tensioning system and ensures that the gap between the membrane and the flat surface remains uniform.
