PURPOSE: Provided is a method for removing nitrogen and phosphorus using anaerobic digestion, which is characterized in that volatile fatty acid generated in anaerobic digestion is supplied into biological treatment process as carbon source. CONSTITUTION: Generally, wastewater treatment system is composed of a primary sedimentation tank, an anaerobic tank, an anoxic tank, an aerobic tank, and secondary sedimentation tank. Effluent of the aerobic tank is recycled into the anoxic tank, and sludge of the secondary sedimentation tank is recycled into the anaerobic tank. According to the method, volatile fatty acid generation process and secondary anoxic tank are added to conventional biological process. Sludge of the primary sedimentation tank is treated in anaerobic condition for generating volatile fatty acid. Generated volatile fatty acid is mixed with sludge of the secondary sedimentation tank for removing NOx-N. And the mixture is recycled into the anaerobic tank. Therefore, nitrogen and phosphorus removal is improved without external carbon source.
