PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a DNA marker which allows simply discriminating the hybrid sterility which is a phenotype of S-5 locus of Oryza sativa to cultivate a remote crossing hybrid rice by including a specific base sequence and allowing the marker to board on the vicinity of S-5 locus of O. sativa.;SOLUTION: This DNA marker has a base sequence shown by formula I, II, or III, and boards on the vicinity of S-5 locus of Oryza sativa. It is preferable to discriminate the genotype of S-5 locus by obtaining a set of primers to detect a DNA marker from two kinds of primers which are opposed to each other on both sides of 338th base in formula I, 338th base in formula II, or 339th base in formula III, carrying out PCR using this set of primers and using DNA extracted from O. sativa as a template, amplifying DNA fragments derived from the DNA marker, followed by determining to be S-5n if an amplified DNA fragment is cleaved by restriction enzyme DraI and determining to be S-5i or S-5j if an amplified DNA fragment is not cleaved by the enzyme.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
