The ice rink is refrigerated by thermal exchange with a circuit carrying a refrigerant. The refrigerant is cooled in a conventional refrigeration cycle and by thermal exchange with material produced during the surface treatment of the ice rink. This exchange is through an intermediate circuit (14,17) in contact with the ice (20) produced from the surface treatment.
