Rotary electrical machine with symmetrical stator winding - uses different packing factors for different phases of stator winding to compensate variations in cooling between outer and inner phases.
The electrical machine has a stator laminations packet with stator slots receiving a multi-phase stator winding (12), the differences in the colling of the stator winding phases (14,15,16) compensated by using different packing factors for the latter. The cross-sections of the winding conductors used for the different phases may vary from one another, so that the outer phase (14) has the greatest packing factor and the inner phase (16) has the lowest packing factor.
