PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a quantitative method classified by form and a quantitative device classified by form for carbons contained in steel. SOLUTION: This quantitative method is a method for measuring the amount of carbons classified by form in a steel to be analyzed by measuring the quantity of carbon monooxide and carbon dioxide produced by heating an extraction residue of the steel to be analyzed in the presence of oxygen. This method comprises the steps of heating started from a lower temperature than the lowest burning initiation temperature of carbons in each form, (1) raising the heating temperature is raised for the start of production of carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide, (2) keeping temperature constant during the period from the start until the end of the production, and measuring the total quantity of carbon monoxide and/or carbon dioxide produced during the period, (3) a step for raising the temperature again at least once after the end of the production. This quantitative device has a means 10, which is capable of controlling the heating temperature of the extracted residue corresponding to a detection signal from a detection means 9 of the initiation and the end of the production of carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide.
