PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To omit word notations of some words in the word dictionary and to decrease the capacity of the dictionary by generating a word number consisting of a control part with a control code and a data part and generating the word number by using a character code according to the character length.;SOLUTION: To generate the word dictionary on a storage device by assigning character codes by characters of word notations and generating word numbers corresponding to the word notations by using the character strings, the method has a step for inputting the word notations, a step for judging the character lengths of the word notations, and a step for generating the word numbers corresponding to the word notations. In the word notation number generating step, a word number consisting of a control part with a control code and a data part is generated and the word number is generated by using a character code according to the character length. This method stores the word number generated on the basis of the character code of the word notation as to a word whose character length is less than 2 and does not store the word notation.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
