The container has a plastic outer shell (2) with an inner lining (10) of a plastic foam which is sufficiently rigid to be self-supporting against the container's inner side wall. The plastic foam lining is prefabricated from blocks of foam with an inner skin, and is designed to be sufficiently flexible to be inserted into the container and sufficiently rigid to stay in position against its inner wall. A similar lining of foam (24) with a skin (25) is attached to the opening base (5) of the container.. The plastic foam used to line the container is polyethylene. The outer shell is made, e.g., from rotomoulded polyethylene.
