PURPOSE: To save a labor for a special locking work by a method wherein a rotor rotatable from a vertical direction to a horizontal position is arranged at one end on the back side of a manhole cover to perform automatic locking. CONSTITUTION: A spacer 3 and a bracket 5 are mounted on one end on the back side of a manhole 1, a rotor 4 is pivotally mounted with the rotor nipped by a bracket 5, and the rotor 4 is rotatable around a pin 6 between C-C'. A protrusion stopper 10 hooked at a support frame pit 7 of a support frame 2 is attached to the spacer 3 on the opposite side thereof. When the manhole cover 1 is closed, the protrusion part stopper 10 is inserted in the support frame pit 7 and by dropping the manhole cover 1 on which the rotor 4 is mounted in such a manner to match with the support frame pit 7 on the opposite side, the rotor 4 makes contact with the upper surface of the support frame 7 and is brought into a vertical position and the manhole cover 1 is fitted in the support frame 2 for automatic locking.
