PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transport decoder and a method which can efficiently process the discontinuity of a system time base that occurs between a buffer and a decoder. ;SOLUTION: A transport decoder 110 which accepts and processes an MPEG-2 format data stream contains a channel interface 112, buffer memory 114, a host microprocessor 116, audio and video decoders 118/120 and a connecting part to a clock signal circuit 122. A discontinuity index is accepted, the next program counter reference PCR value is successively accepted and they are loaded in a counter. Next, a time stamp is searched and fetched among data stored in memory, timer interruption is set based on the time stamp value, and the value PCR is sent to a decoder. Thereby, time enough to process data can be given to the decoder.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
