PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time needed for processing and calculate timing characteristics with high precision by returning to a waveform determination step and repeatedly calculating the characteristics value of a waveform until necessary precision is obtained, and outputting the characteristic value. ;SOLUTION: In addition to information needed for a circuit simulation step, e.g. circuit connection information and input information on an input waveform, etc., a result analytic indication needed for a result analytic step, necessary convergence conditions, etc., are inputted. An input waveform to be used next is determined according to the inputted information. Then an input waveform is generated and an input disk is generated. The circuit simulation of this input disk is performed, only information needed to calculate characteristics is extracted, and the circuit simulation result is analyzed. When the analytic result do not meet convergence conditions, the same process is repeated until the convergence conditions are satisfied. When the convergence conditions are satisfied, a timing characteristic value is outputted. In this case, input waveforms (b)-(d) are generated in addition to the initial value (a) of the input waveform and the final value (e) of the input waveform.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
