PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve weld crack resistance and toughness of an Fe-Ni type 'Invar(R)' alloy without inhibiting physical properties, such as low thermal expansion characteristic, and mechanical properties. ;SOLUTION: The Fe-Ni type 'Invar(R)' alloy has a composition consisting of, by weight, 30-45% nickel, ≤0.0030% sulfur, ≤0.070% phosphorus, ≤0.0040% oxygen, 0.006-0.030% aluminum, ≤0.0030% nitrogen, at least one element selected from the group consisting of ≤0.010% calcium, ≤0.010% magnesium, ≤0.010% titanium, and ≤0.20% zirconium, and the balance iron with inevitable impurities and satisfying (S+1/5O+1/2P)≤0.0045 and (Ca+2Mg+1.5Ti+0.8Zr)/(S+2O)≥1.
