The invention relates to an apparatus for transporting ships from one waterway to another with the aid of a water vessel, said water vessel being moved horizontally and vertically. A ship moves into a water vessel (3) in one waterway, whereupon the water vessel (3), with the aid of trolleys (5), moves the ship via guide tracks (2) from one waterway to the other, said water vessel (3) remaining free of the ground surface between the waterways and hanging horizontally.
