The object of the present invention is a process for detecting end-position sialic acid groups of human transferrin using the sandwich principle. The process is characterised in that the sample fluid containing the human transferrin is incubated with a first receptor capable of bonding specifically with human transferrin, the complex thus formed is separated from the sample fluid, incubated with a second receptor capable of binding specifically to end-position sialic acid groups of human transferrin, the second receptor being bound or capable of binding to a marker, and the complex of first receptor, human transferrin and second receptor is determined by the marker. In one embodiment, the claimed process facilitates determination of sialic acid-deficient human transferrin in body fluids.
