The implant comprises a plate (10) which is screwed (12) against the external surface of the upper femoral metaphysis, and defines an interdependent passage (11) penetrating the trochanter. A threaded head (21) screwed into the femoral head is guided into the passage by an extension shaft (20) which includes a driving socket at its end away from the femoral head. The driving socket of the extension shaft may be engaged by a driver tool (4) having a complementary driving head (41), e.g. a bayonet connection or a threaded head which cooperates with a threaded hole in the end of the shaft. A lever (3) is engageable at one end to the surface plate, and includes a force limiting device such as a flexible tongue (33) for controlling application of driving effort to the rotary shaft.
