PURPOSE: To evaluate a crack propagation speed, etc., by using a stress enlarging coefficient value by applying a compression load to a testpiece which has a rectangular parallelepiped shape and in which a length is larger than a width and a precrack is formed at the center. ;CONSTITUTION: A compression load is applied to two crossing lines of a surface parallel to a testing section and an end face of a precrack side at an interval I=W/2+2e to be eccentrically deviated outside from a center of the testing section and both side faces by using a testpiece 1 in which a precrack 2 is formed. When a composite force balanced with the compression load is loaded with the compression load P at the other end face opposite to the precrack, a stress enlarging coefficient K1 occurs only in a mode one component at an end of the precrack on the testing section, and the crack can be propagated along it. A stable crack growing area in which sufficiently wide L-W in which a K value is decided only by the load irrespective of the length of the crack is obtained under a load control. When a hysteresis is measured and a compliance of its linear range is obtained, a crack propagation amount can be immediately obtained.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
