The invention relates to a composition for the adsorption of trihalomethanes (haloforms) and AOX and for reducing chloramines from water, in particular from swimming-pool and bathing-pool water, made of pulverulent activated carbon having an iodine number of at least 900 mg of iodine/g to 1400 mg of iodine/g, having a pore size distribution of 0.30-0.50 ml/g of micropores and 0.25-0.45 ml/g of mesopores and having an exactly defined particle size distribution (1) of between 4 and 100 mu m and sodium hydrogen sulphate or acids.
