PURPOSE: To efficiently produce useful substances for a cosmetic, a medicine, a quasidrug, a food, etc., by culturing a Cupressaceae plant cell on a plate culture medium prepared by using a highly purified medium-solidifying agent of gellan gum, etc., so as to increase the culture rate of its callus. ;CONSTITUTION: A cell of a slice of a Cupressaceae plant (e.g. Cupressus lusitanica Mill.) is cultured to grow its cullus on a plate culture medium formed from a medium of ≤3000ppm concentration of nutritive salts such as carbon sources, energy sources, vitamins, inorganic components and a plant growth regulator using a highly purified medium-solidifying agent of gellan gum, etc., under dark at 27°C for 4 weeks according to the shaking culture method. Useful substances of the Cupressaceae plant accumulated in the cullus, i.e. toropolones such as hinokitiol are subsequently extracted with an organic solvent such as ethanol, thus mass-producing the objective useful substances of a Cupressaceae plant, widely useful for a cosmetic, a medicine, a quasidrug, a food, etc., with industrial advantage.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
