A previously programmed circular track (RNC) lying exactly in a plane defined by two axes is followed by the machine under test at constant speed while the actual path traversed is measured by orthogonal direct length measurement scales (33,43) connected in servo control loops (30,40) with axial drives (31,41) and sliders (32,42). The discrepancy is diagnosed (20) and displayed on a monitor (70). The displayed deviation is added to or subtracted from a reference track (RRef) to clarify the result of the test. ADVANTAGE - Circular track test is simpler and faster than conventional methods and requires no additional external measuring appts.
