The mfr. comprises (1) grinding the magnetic material to a powder using conventional techniques; (2) mixing the magnetic powder with non magnetic powdered metal; and (3) using the powdered mixt. as starting material in a hot extrusion process. The powder mixt. is pref. cold, isostatically pressed to produce an intermediate prod. before hot extrusion proceeds at 500-1000 deg. C in an inert gas atmos.. The pref. magnetic component is an Nd-Fe-B powder, whilst the non magnetic component comprises Ti, Ni, Bi, V, Nb, Cu, Ta, Cr, Mo, W, Nn, Al, Sb, Ge, Sn, Zr, Ga, Si, Hf or a mixt. at a concn. of 5-50 vol.%.
