Extruded expanded cellulosic packaging bodies - made by extruding cellulose pulp, fibre residues, powder, etc., swelling agent and starch prods. with drop in temp. and pressure to cause expansion upon extrusion
A moulded filling material for packaging purposes is made by mixing cellulose pulp, fibre residues, cellulose power, waste paper and dust with swelling agents, starch prods. and additives to give a mixt. of the required consistency, and extruding the mixt. using an extruder with a thermal and mechanical action with a redn. in temp. and press. upon extrusion to cause expansion of the extruded prod. Pref. the components are mixed to give an extrusion mixt. contg. ca. 60% cellulose and a remainder of starch prods., swelling agent and regulating additives. A cutter is provided to cut the extrudate into packing pieces of the required size.
