The propellant-charge igniter is for a missile in which a sliding firing-pin is axially in line with the charge. Parallel to the pin is a sliding safety-bolt spring-loaded in the firing direction, while a locking ball movable in the transverse direction secures bolt and pin in the safe position. An arrester pin secures the locking bolt in the armed position. The firing-pin is spring-loaded in the firing direction, its weight and the force exerted by the spring being such that ignition takes place at a predetermined time after firing the missile. There can be a flame-discharge bore from the charge, accommodating pyrotechnic time-delay components as desired. ADVANTAGE - Simplicity, and ensures accelerating charge is not fires until clear of marksman.
