The system gives increased acceleration of missiles in barrels, using an additional charge (3c) in the base of the missile (C). This has a pressure-dependent igniter, e.g. a bursting disc (1c) and is fired at the moment when gas pressure is at the maximum, so as to maintain this maximum pressure for a longer period. The pressure curves of cartridge charge and missile charge can be summed together without exceeding the maximum gas pressure. The back-pressure from the missile charge can be arranged to set up an oscillating gas column, whose pressure impulses accelerate the missile.
