A vehicle mfg. plant employs a production line in which a series of operations are carried out by transferring the partially completed assemblies from one station to another. Each unit within the transfer line is identified by information within a data bank. Names and operation data identify specific sequences to be used in the assembly process. In one specific operation, a body section may be transferred from a positioning station (ST1) onto a pallet (ST2) in which engine (14) and suspension are positioned. Actuators used in the process are identified by addressing the database. ADVANTAGE - Reduces number of steps in programming production assembly line.
