Fuel is injected through valves (21-24) into individual cylinders drawing air through an inlet manifold (9) from a throttle (5) equipped with a position detector (7) and preceded by an air flowmeter (6). The idling position of the throttle (5) is signalled by a switch (18). The controller (12) responds also to engine (13) temp. (10), speed (16) and crankshaft angle (19). Comparison of actual and ideal air flows produces a correction factor for use in determining the load. ADVANTAGE - Method is independent of constructional measures and free from errors in magnitude and direction due to pulsatile flow into inlet manifold.
