Bolt arc welding gum in which the bolt is forced downwards, from a rest position into contact with the workpiece and then position adjusted so that it is spaced from the workpiece by an amt. necessary for carrying out the stroke arc ignition welding. The first adjustment device is a pneumatic cylinder (6) and the second device a motorised device (7). ADVANTAGE - By using a pneumatic cylinder the first stage of the position adjustment is carried out using a constant force despite the differences in thickness tolerance of various workpieces and bolts.
