A bank strongroom is provided with safety deposit boxes (55) arranged in columns (50,51,52). A control switch room has electronic control equipment (116), a monitor (122), a control desk (121) and a printer (123). The system monitors the security and state (open or closed) of the doors (40) of the deposit boxes. Magnetic reed switches monitor the security of the doors and the upper and lower edges of each box. Pref. additional circuits, connected by diodes and change-over reed switches, are utilised. ADVANTAGE - Simple, low-wear alarm switch and registering contacts can be retrofitted without difficulty.
