PURPOSE: To maintain a matching position as long as possible especially during curve operation by a method wherein an intervehicle communication passage device is provided with a passive holding and centering device having a spring member. CONSTITUTION: Two intervehicle communication passage device parts 22 and 22' of an intervehicle communication passage device 21 are provided with holding and centering devices 1 and 1', respectively. The central planes 30 and 31 in a longitudinal direction of two car body end parts 20 and 20' are matched on the same line with the central plane 32 in a longitudinal direction of the intervehicle communication passage device 21, and combining elements 11 and 12 and 11' and 12' are held in a position making contact with the sides of the members 22 and 22' by spring members 4 and 4' and transmission members 5 and 5'. During curve running, a shift in the lateral direction of the car body end parts 20 and 20' is absorbed by elastic members 3 and 3' and seal diaphragms 2 and 2' until a shift amount attains a value limited by stoppers 25 and 25', and the intervehicle communication passage device 21 is prevented from separation. This constitution maintains a matching position for a long time during curve running.
