Prodn. of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and/or its copolymers by a polymsn. method in water suspension, or in mass, is characterised by (i) using polyvinylacetate (PVAc) in a water emulsion contg. (a) PVAc particles of diam. 0.01-5 m., and (b) emulsifying agents with a base of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) having 5-12 wt. % (ii) partial hydrolysis of the PVAc to give partially hydrolysed PVAc in a water emulsion with 10-50 (30) % mole OH and (iii) (ultra)-filtration of the prod. at this phase or later to remove the resp. salts of polymsn. and hydrolysis. - The emulsifier comprises PVA. The PVAc has a mol. wt., measured as relative viscosity and expressed in K value 20-100. The emulsion is dried, and the obtd. prod. is then ground, and esp. comprises a dispersed polymsn. catalyst.
