A process for the preparation of the weft thread in weaving machines, in which, as known, a weft thread (11) from a wire feeder (10), intermittent and with in each case a well-defined length, to wire insertion means (12) is released, characterized in that it mainly consists in successively along two wire stock forming devices feeding of the weft thread (11), more particularly, first a prewinder (1), which per weft insertion a length of wire release in each case which is equal to the required length of wire, and then a wire for-preparing apparatus (2) which has a lower peel resistance than the pull-off resistance the prewinder.
