Optical energy and data- are intermittently transmitted to electrical energy-user appts., before conversion of the received optical energy to that electrical using an opto-electric converter (9). The electrical energy is at a low operating voltage. Electrical energy, during the receipt of transmitted optical energy by the converter is stored in an inductive component with mainly inductive impedance by driving a current through the component at a low voltage. - The thus stored electrical energy is taken from the inductive component when the opto-electrical converter is not receiving transmitted optical energy, and at an output voltage higher than that operative. Energy taken from the component is further stored in a component from which it is fed to the electrical energy-user, again at a voltage higher than that used for driving.
