A method of making a building material which comprises the steps of recovering from a water scrubbing desulfurization of a fossil-fuel flue gas in which calcium compounds are added to a scrubbing liquid, a residual gypsum; recovering from a dry desulfurization of a fossil-fuel flue gas with a particulate calcium-containing absorbent, a dry residue upon the removal of particulates from the flue gas, the dry residue containing fly ash; and mixing the dry residue with the residual gypsum to form a settable construction material.
