摘要
Process for producing single-cell protein comprises aerobic cultivation of a mixed thermophilic bacterial culture, NRRL B-8158, at 45-65 degrees, esp. 50-60 degrees C, in an aq. medium contg. =1 oxygenated hydrocarbon as C and energy source, an N source and inorganic nutrients. The culture contains 3 strains of cells (a) large, curved, Gram-positive rods of the genus Bacillus; (b) large Gram-negative rods of the same genus and (c) short Gram-negative rods of the class Schizomycetes but not identified further. The C source is pref. a is not 10C water-soluble, aldehyde, acid, ether, ester, ketone or alcohol, pref. a 1-7C mono- or poly-hydroxyalcohol, most esp. methanol. The protein is suitable for human or animal nutrition. This culture gives high protein yields with very little foaming and by operating at such a high temp. contamination with other bacteria is unlikely. The protein has a favourable distribution of amino acids.
