A peptide of formula R-Ser-Leu-Pro-Ser-Pro-Ser-Arg-Leu- Pro-Gly-Pro-Ser-Asp-Thr-Pro-Ile-Leu- Pro-Gln-OH (I) or its salts are new. In the formula R is H or R1-Ser-Ser-Ser-Ser-Lys- Ala-Pro-Pro-Pro-; R1 is H or R2-3-Asp-Asp-Pro- Arg-Phe-Gln-Asp-; R2 is H or R4-Asp-His-Pro-Leu-Thr-; R3 is Cys or S-acetamidomethl-Cys; R4 is H-R5-Gly-Gly-Pro-Lys-; R5 is Cys or Tyr. HCG is sugar protein and a sexual hormone which plays an important role on support of pregnancy. Determination or detection of HCG is useful for early diagnosis of pregnancy, ectopic pregnancy and choriocarcinoma etc. Antibody obtd. by means of the novel peptide of formula (I) as antigen has immunity cross activity; and so the peptide (I) is useful for prepn. of antibody for HCG determination system and as labelling reagent. End cpd. (I) may be produced by condensing single amino acids or lower peptides in the order shown in formula (I) and eliminating protective gp. for functional gp. of side chain at the final stage of condensn. reaction.
