PURPOSE:To dissolve only a scale layer in good efficiency, by carrying out the electrolytic descaling of a steel material having scale comprising NiFe2O4 and NiCr2O4 in an electrolyte comprising an aqueous NaNO3 or KNO3 solution at a specific temp. range by using the steel material as anode and an electrode as a cathode. CONSTITUTION:SUS304 stainless steel after annealing has dense scale comprising spinel type oxide consisting of NiFe2O4 and NiCr2O4. This stainless steel 4 and a cathode 6 are insterted into an electrolytic tank 2 accommodating an electrolyte 3 comprising an aqueous NaNO3 or KNO3 solution. In this condition, when the stainless steel 4 is used as an anode to carry out electrolytic descaling at room temp. -60 deg.C, only a scale layer is dissolved to remove scale.
