The watercraft, partic. a sailing-yacht or keel-boat, has one or more propping devices (2) installed in tubes (11) displaced sideways from its centreline (3). Each device comprises a strut (4) with driving equipment (14,12.7,8) for moving it between a housed and a working position in or below the plane of the boat bottom. The strut runs in a guide-sleeve or tube (11) set substantially vertically in the hull, with its ends sealing against it. A footplate (17) is flexibly connected (16) to the lower end of the strut. It fits into a hull recess when the prop is in its housed position.
