ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREEXPLORATION SYSTEM FOR CROSS-STEERING AND STACKING SEISMICDATA USING A SAWTOOTH TRAVERSE OF SHOT POINTS CENTRALLYSPACED BETWEEN AT LEAST A PAIR OF LINEAR DETECTOR SPREADSIn areal seismic exploration, seismic impulses aregenerated successively at locations spaced along a centrallylocated, asymmetric sawtooth shot-point line which regularlycrosses a median line coincident with the line of survey.Seismic waves resulting from each impulse are detected at atleast a pair of detector spreads each parallel to the medianline, but offset from each other a distance equal to an integralmultiple of the vertical offset of the shot-point line. Preferablythe detected signals are summed on a cross-steered basis, suchthat the resulting traces associated with crossed sets of center-points normal to the survey line provide directional ("dip")information to better indicate areal subsurface structure.Additionally, the detected signals can be stacked on a commondepth point basis (CDPS).
