ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREAn electrical connector includes complementarycontact elements, one contact element being supported foraxial movement in its housing as part of a contact assemblyalso including a piston and a member evolving arc-quenchinggas upon being subjected to an arc. Such contact assemblyis disposed in a passage having an encircling electricallyconductive wall and a piston thereof is responsive to evolvedgas to displace the contact assembly. A resilient contactoris situated radially outwardly of the contact assembly andradially inwardly of the conductive wall for resilientlyengaging the contact assembly and wall for providing electricalcontinuity therebetween.
