The crank mechanism is particularly intended for a reciprocating double-acting piston engine. The crank of the crankshaft (4) is provided with external gear teeth which are so dimensioned that the centre line of the crankshaft intersects a fixed point of the gear pitch circle. This gear meshes with an internal gear ring (3) whose PCD is twice that of the crank gear. The internal gear ring (3) is inside the hollow piston (1, 2) of the engine. The space between the crank and the gear ring is pref. filled by shanks (5) bearing on collars of the ring and the crank, to transmit the developed forces from piston to crank and maintain their relative distance.
