A system for continuous infusion of fluids into a patient has at least one infusion container and apparatus to conduct the infusion fluid to the patient is constructed such that several infusion containers are provided which can be used in sequence to provide a continuous infusion flow by means of a changeover device. This changeover device is automatic and operates as soon as the infusion container on stream is emptied. The sensor for this system is operated by the fluid level in the infusion container utilising a light barrier system and whose output operates the electromechanically driven changeover device. The changeover device control also incorporates a cut off valve and alarm signal circuit.
