The bed is assumed already to have an electricity supply (e.g. for raising head and foot). All the castors are wired to a single control at the foot of the bed. The illustration is of the unlatched position. The stop latch operates by depression of a rod which both pushes a slotted wheel over teeth thus fixing the steering fork, and also pushes a cog on a bracket into a gap in a toothed wheel, thus stopping the castor rolling. The rod is moved by an electromagnet core through a ltach which keeps it in the down position until a second use of the magnet reverses the movement.
