The dependence of the counter current of a Geiger-Muller counter on the log of the dose rate is linearised. A d.c. voltage signal corresponding to the mean count pulse frequency is formed and a compensating current is derived from this signal. The dose rate dependent amplitude of this current is equal to the deviation of the counter current from a logarithmic curve, and the compensating current is added to the mean counter current.
