Water is pumped from a tank, carrying the fish up a pipe and into an overhead container. A second pipe, with an elbow, is fitted over the first and is rotated rapidly inside the container by a gear and motor. The water is thrown from this pipe by centrifugal force, through a mesh screen, and is returned to the tank. The fish drop down a funnel into a container, such as a road tanker. The mesh screen forms the upper wall of an internal wall of the container, the wall defining an annular chamber.
