The stopping and starting is controlled by light beam 16-17 intercepted by the respective trays. At 22d, an operator determines the sex of each chicken and places it on one of the conveyers 20, 20a, 21, 21a so that male and female chickens are collected respectively in trays 18, 19, their numbers being detected by light-counters 23, 24 and registered at 25, 26.
