569,397. Linkwork. STEVENS, A. H. (Sugar Shell Corporation). June 11, 1943, No. 9453. [Class 80 (iii)] [Also in Groups V and VI] In a baking-machine a gripper for a flat-baked cake comprises a pair of jaws 70, 701 which are pivotally-mounted on an arm 95 which is reciprocated, by means of, a cam-operated lever 145, along a track 103 ... 105, the arm 95 carrying a roller 110 which runs in the track. The jaw 701 is normally stationary relatively to the arm 95, but jaw 70 pivots thereon to the open and closed positions. Jaw 70 is pivoted to the closed position, when the jaws are in the Fig. 8 position, by means of a camoperated rod 91 which is at that time pulled down. The connection between the rod 91 and the jaw 70 comprises a toggle linkage 87, 94, 120 and a bellcrank lever 121 pivoted at 122 on the arm 95; when rod 91 is pulled down, plate 94 turns about pivot 117 on arm 95, and point 118 passes. over a deadcentre line joining points 88 and 117, the plate abutting against a stop 941, where it is held by a spring 116. Jaw 70 is opened, at the beginning of the leftward journey, by abutment of a roller 93 on the plate 94 with a dog 130 resiliently mounted on the track, the toggle snapping down to the position shown in Fig. 8 (in Fig. 8 the rod 91 has not yet closed jaw 70).
