摘要
Products, which are stated to be wetting, penetrating, and emulsifying agents for use in the textile, leather, paper, and soap industries are prepared by sulphonating naphthenic acids or their esters after they have been treated with reducing agents. After the reduction, the saponifiable constituents may be removed prior to the sulphonation. In examples: (1) crude naphthenic acid is esterified with n-butyl alcohol and reduced in an autoclave with sodium and butyl alcohol. Saponifiable products are removed, and sulphonation effected with a mixture of sulphuric and chlorsulphonic acids: (2) crude naphthenic acid, together with carbon monoxide, is passed over a catalyst comprising manganous oxide and/or an element of Group VI, and the reduced product together with hydrogen passed over a second catalyst comprising nickel or nickelous oxide. The sulphonating agent employed contains acetic anhydride.ALSO:Products, which are stated to be wetting, penetrating and emulsifying agents for use in the textile, leather, paper, and soap industries are prepared by sulphonating naphthenic acids such as are obtained in the refining of petroleum with alkali, or their esters after they have been treated with reducing agents. The reduction may be effected by means of an alkali metal in the presence of an alcoholic solvent or by means of carbon monoxide or formic acid with or without a catalyst. After the reduction, the saponifiable constituents may be removed prior to the sulphonation, which may be effected with sulphuric acid, oleum or chlorsulphonic acid, possibly in the presence of diluents, e.g. carbon tetrachloride and/or dehydrating agents. In examples: (1) crude naphthenic acid is esterified with n-butyl alcohol and hydrochloric acid, and reduced in an autoclave with sodium and butyl alcohol. Saponifiable products are removed, and sulphonation effected with a mixture of sulphuric and chlorsulphonic acids: (2) crude naphthenic acid together with carbon monoxide is passed over a catalyst comprising manganous oxide and/or an element of Group VI, and the reduced product together with hydrogen passed over a second catalyst comprising nickel or nickelous oxide. The sulphonating agent employed contains acetic anhydride.
