127,282. Debauge, H. Oct, 2, 1916, [Convention date]. Machine guns. - Relates to devices for cooling the barrels of machine guns, especially of the Vickers type, by employing fusible metal as the cooling- medium, and consists in the construction and arrangement described below. A cylindrical steel tube a, Fig. 1, is screwed upon the rear part b of the barrel and at the forward end upon a member d. The barrel being conical, an annular space is left between the barrel and the tube a, and this space is filled with an alloy fusible at a relatively low temperature, which may be the alloy of bismuth and tin described in Specification 126,983. The part of the cooling-device above described remains fixed to the barrel and is dispensed with when the gun barrel is cylindrical. Upon the tube a, or upon the barrel when it is cylindrical, is mounted a radiator composed of a double-walled chamber filled with the alloy, the inner wall e being cylindrical, and the outer wall f shaped to form a series of disks. A nut h and a fixed cheek g on the frame retain the radiator at the rear end, and a member i of the recoil mechanism, together with a cheek j, secure the front end, the whole being strengthened by bolts k.
