Feeding webs.-In a machine for stretching and feeding rubber sheet, the sheet a passes from a drum o round friction rollers, the tension of which is regulated by a steel or like band d, and is stretched and fed forwards by spring- pressed gripping - bars b1, b2, mounted on a cross-head b3 reciprocated by pin-and-slot mechanism n1, k1, l. On the down-stroke, the sheet is stretched until the friction of the rollers is overcome, when the sheet is fed forward. At the end of the down-stroke, the bar b2 is forced away from the sheet by a cam-surface f1, it passes to the outside of a spring j1, and returns on the outside of the guide e2. The stretched sheet is taken up by a drum p driven by ratchet gear.
